Acts of care: Sorry to Bother You
Sorry to Bother You: film screening organized by dispositif x ESHCC alumni x Dokhuis
A telemarketer learns to use his “white voice” to get ahead, while his coworkers begin to unionize outside. What starts as a story about ambition and survival at work unfolds into a sharp critique of labor, race, and capitalism.
Boots Riley brings the same political urgency from his music into his debut film. We cannot understand labor without race, and Sorry to Bother You places that relationship at the center through humor, exaggeration, and moments that push beyond realism. It is a funny and accessible film, but one that remains deeply critical of the structures that define our working lives today.
